Vegan Earth Day 2010 Hits 300+ Communities!
Success! FARM’s activists went above and beyond for Vegan Earth Day, carrying our planet-saving message to more than 300 communities! Across the U.S., Canada, and even Australia, FARM’s network of grassroots volunteers distributed flyers, staffed information tables, offered free vegan food, and screened films! The message? We can not achieve environmental sustainability without changing our diets!
With the 2006 United Nations report attributing 18% of all greenhouse gases to animal agriculture, and a World Watch Magazine study recalculating the number at 51%, it is becoming more and more apparent that ditching your car is not the only important step towards saving our planet.
To spread this urgent message, FARM mailed out over 270 full Earth Day event packs complete with handouts, stickers, sign-up sheets and more. Our colorful postcard-sized handouts were a hit – we sent out nearly 35,000 handouts for distribution at Earth Day activities! Each handout carries a compelling message demonstrating the links between animal agriculture and environmental devastation. The cards offer a free Veg Starter Guide and weekly vegan recipes.
In Washington DC, FARM got active at several events! On Saturday, April 17th, FARM staff set up a table at the Green in the Circle Festival, where we engaged visitors with a message that a shift to a vegan diet is essential for the environment. The following weekend, our staff and passionate volunteers conducted outreach at the free Earth Day concert and on the National Mall, where vegetarians such as Joss Stone and The Roots performed. With the help of the Vegetarian Society of DC and the Open the Cages Alliance, we distributed over 3,000 leaflets to environmentally-minded attendees!
Each year, the vegan message becomes a bigger part of Earth Day. In the days leading up to Earth Day 2010 a United Nations study indicted dairy as a substantial contributor to climate change, and the United States EPA blog even promoted a meat-free diet! FARM continues to lead the fight to save our earth and all its inhabitants, and we are very appreciative to our dedicated supporters.
Special thanks to the caring people who got active
to spread the vegan message for Earth Day!
